“The DOs and DON’Ts of Karaoke!”
Take your bar singing to the next level with this sobering look at an event that is normally awash with alcohol. Karl will talk about the good, the bad and the ugly sides of the fun “sport” known as Karaoke. (Yes, it really is a sport with a world championship competition and everything.) We have his word that he will not be singing his presentation!
About Karl LeRay:
Karl LeRay, local karaoke star, hails from afar . . . from Kingston, Jamaica to be more exact. Karl was born to thoroughly normal, upper middle-class parents in Jamaica (the country) during the Kennedy Era. They immigrated to the United States where he was raised in a loving, supportive household in New York City, and educated well by his parents and his teachers. Naturally . . . he couldn’t stand the heat and bustle—thus his permanent residence in Alaska.
Karl is multi-faceted: information technology specialist, avid motorcyclist for nearly three decades, and singer of a mean karaoke. When not writing lame biographies of himself, other hobbies include photography, listening to too-loud music, gourmet cooking (and eating thereof) reading, writing, gaming, and an almost unknown sport called “thinking” (a vigorous avocation; it has a small but fiercely loyal following). He’s been known to be seriously into Internet Porn from time to time though he claims that this somehow enhances his desire of poetry and other literature. This is where that whole writing thing comes into play. A proponent of the needlessly long sentence, he has never met a comma or a clause that he didn’t like.
His full-time business, Apex Logic, and several part-time projects somehow leave him time to enjoy being a member of the Dawgs of the North, ABATE, CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association), and HOG (Harley Owners Group), and, of course, commandeering the karaoke stage. With all this in his life, free time is a precious commodity. He yearns for a vacation more than anything else. Perhaps the day that he achieves his goal of becoming independently wealthy, he can finally settle down and do what he wants to do most which . . . well . . . he’ll figure that out when he has a moment to do so. You’ll find him @hogbiker on Twitter.
Karl LeRay is one of many compelling and entertaining speakers that will be featured at Ignite Anchorage 3 on March 2nd at the Alaska Wild Berry Theater. Get your tickets now and help raise money to fund Alaska education projects!

“We All Have a Story”
A conversation about social change through social media.
About Mark Horvath
Currently Mark Horvath has broken the mold. He is not doing what makes sense, he’s not doing something that even pays the bills—he is living out his passion and doing what burns deep inside of him. To share the face and voice of homelessness, Mark has developed Invisible People TV to tell the stories of people living on the streets, something he knows all too well as he once lived among them.
Valerie Streit did an in-depth story on his fall into homelessness and his subsequent activism, complete with video, found in full at CNN Tech.
Mark not only has an incredible personal story, he also knows how to tell a story. The stark interviews with homeless people are riveting. His work is extremely innovative and has created a lot of buzz since first going live in 2008.
Visit Mark at Hardly Normal or find him as @hardlynormal on Twitter. The Invisible People are on Twitter as @invisiblepeople.

In five minutes explain the Open Web to your parents.
Mozilla.org is challenging Global Ignite Week (GIW) participants to give a five-minute, Ignite-style presentation to explain to non-geeks – like most of our parents presumably – just what the Open Web actually means and why it should matter to them. These presentations will be entered into a global competition and the best will have a chance to participate in the Drumbeat Festival that will be held June 2010 in Amsterdam. The winner will receive an expense-paid invitation to give their presentation at the Drumbeat Festival.*
If any Anchorage geeks want to take on this challenge and give an Open Web presentation at Ignite Anchorage 3 get in contact with us at Ignite (at) IgniteAnchorage.com. We’ll assist you with the details of getting your presentation submitted and also provide any logistical or technical support you may need.
*Our current understanding is that presentations from GIW will be judged separately from all the other submissions and that there will be one winner selected from the GIW presentations. This means that you will be competing against a limited field of competitors. There are currently 72 Ignite events scheduled for GIW so your odds could be very good.
For more details see: The Ultimate Open Web Presentation
We need two volunteers for a PowerPoint Karaoke competition at Ignite Anchorage 3. The basic idea behind PowerPoint Karaoke is that you give an impromptu talk based on a set of slides you have never seen before. There are many variations, but for our competition you will have 3 minutes to give an Ignite-style presentation based on 10 random PowerPoint slides. You will see the each slide for the first time at the same time that the audience does. The audience will select the winner, but there will be prizes awarded to both competitors.
