Ignite Anchorage #1: It’s a Wrap!

2009 May 8
by Dean

Wow, we can’t believe it’s over already. The speakers were all fantastic and it was so much fun! We hope everyone that attended had as much fun as we did. We have a lot of people to thank for putting this event together:

  • Kelly Springer [ @AKFireCracker / @IgniteAnchorage ]: It was Kelly’s idea to bring Ignite to Anchorage and this wouldn’t have happened without her. She organized it and also contributed door prizes and the contest materials.
  • Caren [ @akcaren ]: Caren organized all of the speakers’ PowerPoint slides and ran the slideshow at the event. Organizing the presentations was a big job and she didn’t have much time to work with but she did an amazing job.
  • Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum and Shari Hart, the museum’s Director of Marketing and Development: The museum was a wonderful venue and Shari was a gracious host. They even contributed a gift certificate for the door prizes. If you haven’t been to the museum you need to make plans to visit, and if you are planning an event for up to 150 people the museum’s Stearman room is a great facility.
  • Movin’ 104.9@movin1049 ] and morning host Steve Franklin [ @DJ_LEFTY ]: Steve emceed the event for us and he really helped make it fun. He was so good that we’ve already invited him to emcee the next Ignite Anchorage. Tune in to his show, MOViN’ Mornings w/ Barb and Steve, weekday mornings from 6:00 to 10:00 AM.
  • Alaska TravelGram@alaskatravelgrm ] and Scott McMurren [ @zoom907 ]: Scott secured the venue for us and he made it possible for Marion Owen to fly from Kodiak, Alaska on Era Aviation to speak at Ignite Anchorage.
  • Propaganda|AK@PropagandaAK ] and Mitch Kitter [ @MitchKitter ]: Propaganda|AK contributed a door prize and Mitch helped organize the event and he worked the registration table at the event.
  • Denali Computer Services and Matt Boswell [ @AKMattB ]: Denali Computer Services contributed a door prize and Matt helped with registration and videography at the event.
  • SplatDot.com@splatdot ] and Dean Franklin [ @jdfrankl ]: SplatDot.com contributed door prizes, snacks and name tags. Dean helped organize the event.
  • Gravity Medium@gravitymedium ] and John Proffitt [ @jmproffitt ]: Gravity Medium contributed door prizes. John helped with planning and publicizing the event.
  • Ann Valone [ @4ann2c ]: Ann contributed door prizes. (And she didn’t even get to attend. We hope to see Ann at the next Ignite Anchorage.)
  • Alaska HDTV@akhdtv ] and Scott Slone@scottslone ]: Scott brought Alaska HDTV’s HD video camera to record Ignite Anchorage.
  • Chilkoot Charlie’s@koots ] and their bartender Ben: Koot’s provided the cash bar and if you need a cash bar for an event give Koot’s a call because they do a great job. Ben was a great bartender too so ask for him for your event and don’t forget to tip generously.

We owe a special debt of gratitude to the speakers, they are what Ignite Anchorage was really all about after all:

Thanks also to everyone who attended! We hope to see you all at the next Ignite Anchorage. Stay tuned…
