Ignite Anchorage Survey Results

2009 September 25
by Dean

The survey results are in and have been tallied. There is strong interest in continuing events in the Ignite format in Anchorage. Even better, there’s strong interest in helping organize and promote the events. Best of all, there is a large group of people in Anchorage who want to present at Ignite events. This survey went better than we could have hoped and we want to thank everyone who took to time to fill it out. See you at the next Ignite!

1. Did you attend the first Ignite Anchorage event in May?

Yes

20.0%
No

80.0%

2. Do you want to see more Ignite events held in Anchorage?

Yes

93.8%
No

6.2%

Every respondent that attended the first Ignite Anchorage answered “Yes” to this question. All of the “No” responses were from people who did not attend the first event.

3. How likely are you to attend a future Ignite event in Anchorage?

Nothing could stop me from attending.

5.0%
I am likely to attend, depending on the date and time.

78.8%
I might attend, if there’s nothing good on television that night.

10.0%
I probably won’t attend.

6.2%

4. What day of the week would you prefer Ignite events to be held?

Monday

6.7%
Tuesday

13.5%
Wednesday

12.2%
Thursday

24.3%
Friday

17.6%
Saturday

17.6%
Sunday

8.1%

The voting followed a normal distribution with a mode of Thursday. Since Thursday got the most votes, we’ll likely hold the next event on that day. However, since there was pretty strong support for some other days this will let us be a little more flexible when trying to locate a venue.

5. When would you prefer the next Ignite event to be held?

1st week in November

18.6%
2nd week in November

38.6%
2nd week in January, 2010

17.1%
3rd week in January, 2010

14.3%
Other

11.4%

If we can get enough speakers to commit and we can secure a venue, we will stage an Ignite event the 2nd week in November. Interest for attending and presenting were both strong enough that we’ll likely hold an event in January also.

6. Would you be willing to volunteer to help organize and run future Ignite events?

Yes

34.8%
No

66.2%

Even though the majority answered “No”, this is actually an excellent response to this question. We were pleased to see so many people interested in helping stage future events.

7. Would you be willing to give a five minute presentation at a future Ignite event?

Yes

45.7%
No

54.3%

This was the best set of responses out of all the questions. We have enough potential presenters to be able to tentatively plan the next three or four Ignite events. The presenters are the event, so it’s exciting that so many respondents want to present.

8. If you were to give a presentation at Ignite, what would it be about?

We’ll publish the proposed topics after we have a chance to discuss them with each of the respondents.

9. If want to be contacted to discuss volunteering or presenting at future Ignite events then please provide your Twitter user name, email address or phone number:

Responses not for publication.

10. Do you have additional comments or suggestions related to Ignite Anchorage that you would like to share?

Some selected comments:

  • I’m very excited about this and want to see it supported. Hope @IgniteAnchorage stays connected in/grounded in the active Twitter community up here, but also that it gets new folks — non-twitter users & other groovy locals — excited about this. It’s one of the coolest formats I’ve ever heard of.
  • Ignite was an eye-and-mind opener and I hope to attend more!
  • I would love to attend this year and possibly give a presentation, but last year there was a 21+ age restriction because of the venue. This was very disappointing and I think denies the younger crowd from expressing their passions to a local forum. I hope to see that change this year. [NOTE: We couldn't agree more and we are going to make sure that we can include everyone at future events.]
