What Is Ignite?

Ignite Anchorage is a community forum for sharing knowledge and information. Ignite events are open to all members of the community.

Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Ignite events are now held in communities worldwide. The basic format consists of a group of volunteer speakers from the community who give presentations on topics they are passionate about. Presentation topics can be just about anything from technical to practical to esoteric. Presentations are limited to five minutes each, with 20 slides that are set to auto-advance every 15 seconds. O’Reilly Media promotes the Ignite format and hosts the main Ignite page.

If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers.
